Pinot Nero, considered one of the most difficult varieties to grow and vinify, is cultivated in the San Piero and Meleto macro-zone of the Castello di Meleto estate. This variety of ancient origins is also one of three used in the production of Champagne and it is believed that the name, Pinot Nero, refers to the shape of the grape cluster, which is small and pine-like in form. Pinot Nero is a delicate variety and extremely responsive to the characteristics of the territory in which is grows, expressing different qualities according to cultivation techniques and positioning. Guyot is the preferred vine training method used for Pinot Nero here, with a density of 5400 plants per hectare and with plant distances of 2.3m x 0.8. The average elevation is 360 mt above sea level
