One of the main sedimentary rocks, even if scarcely dispersed, is the Macigno di arenaria (sandstone) of the Chianti Mountains, located near streams or areas of water in general. Arenaria varies in size but not composition. Its chemical make-up is quite different from the sands of the Pliocene, but morphologically very similar. It is found in the macrozone Casi.
